Open Rings and Ring Sizing: Fit Before Style
Can every open ring be adjusted?
An open ring has a gap in the band, but that does not make it one-size-fits-all. The usable adjustment depends on the metal, thickness and any stone setting. Repeated bending can fatigue the metal or loosen details; check the stated size range and avoid forcing the ends apart.
How do you measure the correct size?
Use a ring sizer on the intended finger, or measure the inside diameter of a comfortable, round ring worn on that same finger. The band should pass over the knuckle without excessive resistance and stay secure at its base. Compare measurements with the seller’s size chart, as US, Hong Kong and Japanese labels differ.
Does band width affect the fit?
Wide bands contact more skin and may feel tighter than thin rings of the same nominal size. For wide or layered styles, try a gauge of similar width rather than automatically sizing up. A V-shaped or open design may sit differently from a plain band, so check the shape and stacking clearance before ordering.
